KalbarriSome 589km north of Perth in an area which has been witness to much of the state's most violent seafaring history. It would have been far beyond the wildest imagination of the survivors of the Dutch East Indiamen Zuytdorp, wrecked here in 1712, to think that they were in what was to become one of Australia's most puzzling mysteries.
As an item of historical interest Kalbarri was probably the unlooked-for home of the first white settlers in Australia, as it was here, near Wittecarra Gully that Captain Pelsaert of the Dutch East India Company marooned two crew members implicated in the "Batavia" shipwreck and massacre.
The Kalbarri town site, at the mouth of the Murchison River has grown from an almost unknown settlement in 1951 to a thriving township, offering excellent facilities and attractions for tourists, with a recently opened up to date, modern airport. Some of the activities for tourists include river, beach and charter fishing. Rock climbing and abseiling, horseriding, camel riding, bush walking, golf, hang gliding, most water activities and excellent surfing.
Kalbarri today offers a paradise holiday for all tourists and travellers.
Nice place for a honeymoon or a second honeymoon!
